A bit of a mystery has emerged on the first night of "American Idol's" season proper.

Just as the Green Mile episode was put to bed today, a contestant has gone missing: Joanna Pacitti, who has been considered one of the favorites because of her previous singing experience.

Felicia Barton, 26, will be replacing Joanna Pacitti in American Idol’s Top 36, after Joanna Pacitti was booted from the competition. Joanna Pacitti was disqualified after being told on Wednesday night she would be returning for the next round.

“It has been determined that Joanna Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition,” FOX said in a statement released Wednesday night. “American Idol contestant Felicia Barton has replaced Ms. Pacitti as part of the Top 36.”

Joanna Pacitti’s eligibility has been called into question since it was learned she had previous record deals, including the release of an album with Geffen Records, and the single “Let It Slide” with A&M Records, as well as close relationships with two executives of 19 Management, the production company behind Idol.

Joanna Pacitti lived in the same apartment building as 19’s Michelle Young and Roger Widynowski, even referring to the former exec as her “best friend.”

Both Felicia Barton and Joanna Pacitti audtioned in Louisville, KY. Barton lives in Virginia Beach with her husband and son.

The official Fox news release announcing the top 36 contestants lists female singers Alexis Grace, Allison Iraheta, Anne Marie Boskovich, Arianna Asfar, Casey Carlson, Felicia Barton, Jackie Tohn, Jasmine Murray, Jeanine Vailes, Jesse Langseth, Kendall Beard, Lil Rounds, Megan Corkrey, Mishavonna Henson, Stevie Wright, Tatiana Del Toro, Kristen McNamara and Taylor Vaifanua.

That's right, no Joanna Pacitti, whom we saw make it through the Green Mile tonight. And the list includes Felicia Barton, who was seen being sent packing on the Green Mile episode.

A source close to the show now tells us that Pacitti was disqualified to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

In the last week, tabloids had been reporting on a private relationship between Pacitti and executives of 19 Management, one of the companies overseeing "Idol."

Salma Hayek, who is still breast-feeding her 1-year-old daughter, explains her decision simply: “It’s about women sticking together and we really need to help the children in any way we can.”

A colleague at the Post-Dispatch sent me an email about the video, saying: [There is a] broader discussion about whether someone would feed another woman’s child. I imagine there would be all kinds of health concerns about transmission of substances from the mother’s breast milk to the child, and perhaps vice versa, besides the social/cultural proprieties. Although that’s basically what “wet nurses” used to do generations ago.

I nursed each of my children and - to be perfectly honest - if I saw a starving baby, I might have asked the mother if she wanted me to nurse him or her. (If there was no other nearby source of nutrition available). But it does seem kind of unsettling to nurse another woman’s child. Would you have done what Salma Hayek did?

Pop star Rihanna is helping a 5-year-old girl suffering from leukemia by finding a bone marrow donor for her.

Jasmina Amena has been struggling to find a donor, who can add relief to her life.

However, the `Umbrella’ hitmaker, who was deeply touched when she came to know about the New York girl’s plight, has taken the initiative to help the girl.

“When I saw her video, it broke my heart,” the Sun quoted Rihanna, as saying.

"it is so unfair that for a black patient it is so much harder to find a bone marrow match,” Rihanna added.

Jasmian, who has been in hospital since January 20, is touched by Rihanna’s gesture.

“Rihanna loves children. I’m so excited,” Jasmina said.

Rihanna may be sorta tied up in controversy right now because of the whole Chris Brown being a woman beater issue, but she's also got a heart of gold. She's been helping out a 5-year-old girl who has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant to live. Rihanna said she saw a video of the girl, whose name is Jasmina, and she said she was heartbroken and feels it's unfair that it's harder for a black patient to find a bone marrow match.

Yes, CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric did a primetime interview with rapper Lil Wayne.

Katie is doing a Pre-Grammy Special and interviewed different artist, but I was just a little taken-a-back when I saw the pair together. They just seem like oil and vinegar.

Katie was recently on Regis and Kelly and spoke about her interview and admitted she was scared of him (I can't blame her, have you seen him?). Until he said "Ms. Katie, I'm a gangster." She said that the fact he called her "Ms. Katie" and was so nice and polite she loosened up.

What's interesting from a business perspective, though, is the alleged attempt of Michael Phelps' marketing firm, Octagon, to kill the story:

Tarnished golden boy Michael Phelps has issued a public apology to his fans after a controversial photo surfaced of him smoking marijuana was published in the London tabloids.

The U.S. Olympic Committee also released a statement regarding the pictures of Michael Phelps toking on a bong. It reads: "We are disappointed in the behavior recently exhibited by Michael Phelps. Michael Phelps is a role model, and he is well aware of the responsibilities and accountability that come with setting a positive example for others, particularly young people.

"In this instance, regrettably, he failed to fulfill those responsibilities. Michael Phelps has acknowledged that he made a mistake and apologized for his actions. This isn't the first time that the 14-time Olympic gold medalist found himself diving into hot water -- Michael Phelps plead guilty to a drunk driving charge in 2004, right before swimming to multiple victories in the Athens Summer Games. He expressed regret and publicly apologized for that incident as well.

MELBOURNE, Australia Rafael Nadal held off Roger Federer in another momentum-swinging, five-set final to win the Australian Open on Sunday, keeping the Grand Slam singles record safe for now.

After coming through the longest match in the tournament's history to reach the championship match, Nadal needed 4 hours, 23 minutes Sunday to win 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-2.

Roger Federer, who was trying to equal Pete Sampras' 14 major titles, has lost to Nadal the last three times they've met in Grand Slam finals.

The 27-year-old Swiss star couldn't hold back tears at the presentation.

"Maybe I'll try later. God, it's killing me," Federer said, sobbing. He returned to congratulate Nadal within minutes, saying: "You deserved it. You played a fantastic final."

Nadal collected the trophy and put his arm around Roger Federer.

"Roger, sorry for today. I really know how you feel right now," Nadal said. "Remember, you're a great champion, you're one of the best in history."

He accepted the cup from Rod Laver, who was in Australia to mark the start of the 40th anniversary of the last Grand Slam season.

"To receive this trophy from Rod Laver is a dream for me," Nadal said.

Roger Federer, so dominant when he won three of the four majors in 2006 and 2007, has now lost finals on three different surfaces to Nadal.

Now it's the 22-year-old Nadal who seems more likely to be the first since Laver to complete a Grand Slam with wins in one year in all four majors.

Nadal, who has four consecutive titles on clay at Roland Garros and beat Federer on grass in a five-set epic at Wimbledon last year, became the first Spaniard to win the Australian title.

He has now won five of the seven Grand Slam finals he's played against Federer and is 13-6 overall against him.
